Title: Cutting into a brand new case...
Post by: zx2slow on July 14, 2006, 03:06:45 PM
It looks like I'll be dropping a wad of cash on a case (U2-UFO) or cutting up a brand new one to fit a triple 120mm radiator.  I have made some nice blowholes (bring on teh puns) in cheap/used cases but never any nice expensive aluminum cases.  I kinda suck at metalwork and can never get anything perfect, those stamped fan grills have saved me quite a few times.

How do you guys that mod do it?  I'm going to have to get a holesaw or find a plasma cutter.

Just to warn you a Plasma cutter will cut through the case real easy but it won't make clean lines and sharp corners.  I worked with some plasma cutters down at Cannondale and they tended to get messy.

I cut my 12 cm with a dremmel a couple of weeks ago.  I used the fan grill as my template to scribe the circle.  I then used a lot of duct tape along the outside of the circle.  The thought was, if the blade skipped a lil, it wouldnt scar the case immediately.  I just used the simple cutting wheel, then switched to a grinder to take off the hsarp edges when I was done.

Can you bring a plasma cutter or a Cannondale to the LAN?  Preferibly size 56 cm if it is a Cannondale.
