Crysis 2
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:14:22 AM »
So I'm sure some of you caught the news by now and some of you haven't, so I'll just put it up that a semi-complete, beta version of Crysis 2 got leaked somehow.

Not going to post the torrent for obvious reasons, but I thought I'd just make a note of it.

Supposedly it's beta enough that there's a level editor and the complete SP campaign, but the game has technical problems like having a hard time switching resolutions or something. I also read no DX11.

And then there's this comment on Kotaku. "I shall still purchase this. I've been following the drama on a certain site, and people that have torrented it have dumped pics and impressions. From what I gather, it's a sad departure from the first game, and in many ways more "consolized." The various individuals noted that supplementary features such as prone and leaning are noticeably absent. The way the nanosuit functions they say is not as it was in the first game. They also expressed disappointment at not being able to minutely change graphics options. They were only allowed to change the overall settings. And no AA? Must be cause its the beta. I couldn't see this game without AA."

I liked Crysis and plan on getting this eventually, but this is... yeah. Totally unexpected move to see someone at either Crytek or EA leak this a month early. Shades of the Half Life 2 and Doom 3 "leaks."

Yea Im not downloading it.  I will wait for the release and buy my copy to support the industry.  This is why the developers and publishers arent including lan support for their games anymore.

Though I mostly agree with you, someone on the side of EA or Crytek leaked it. So to take out lan play because of someone on their side is... that's just not right. Who knows, this might've been put out on purpose. I checked out the forums and it looks like a PC multiplayer demo is coming soon.

yea i see what ur saying.  I meant as a whole piracy is one of the reasons they give for not including LAN support.  Since a lan server won't authenticate a game key thats how pirated games can play mulitplayer.

I was able to play about 5 mins of it.  Yes it is certainly a beta.  Runs well, but it is using DX9.  Many MANY bugs, but I'll say it again...it's a leaked beta.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I got to see it in action.  Yeah it's buggy and obviously incomplete, but its so awesome.  Can't wait for this release.

So for those of you who've seen it in action and/or played it.... is it really "consolized?" Or does the amount of action make up for that? I don't think I'm going to reserve it as I did MvC3 and the new DoW2 expansion, but I would like to buy it (and crysis once it goes on sale on steam again).

No, I'm pretty sure they don't include LAN anymore because:

A.) It does prevents pirates from playing multiplayer over a VPN...

however,

B.) Even without LAN, people (like you) still buy their games anyway. Case in point, I haven't bought a Call of Duty game since World at War, while members of my clan were only able to resist Modern Warfare 2, but couldn't help jumping on the Black Ops bandwagon because it has "dedicated servers". I put that in quotes because I still don't like rented servers as much as games that release dedicated server files so that I can throw up my own server for myself and friends. Plus once Gameservers stops offering servers for this games, we're screwed and won't be able to play them anymore. The rental only servers + no LAN support = I'm not buying it!

Mostly B. If people still buy your games even when you don't include a certain feature, why would you bother to include it, even if it didn't help prevent pirates from having their multiplayer fun?
