Winamp shutting down Dec. 20
« on: November 20, 2013, 03:13:42 PM »
From the website.

"Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.
Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years."

I still use it as my music player and quite happily, too. Sad, sad times.

i remember firing up Napster in 1999 and finding some sweet Nintendo skins for Winamp.

As one redditor stated: "This really sucks the llama's ass."

Nooooo! You bastard!

I loved WinAmp, it was the goto media player for me for years. I too remember finding a nice skin (of Laetitia Casta) and listening for hours to my Napster spoils of war.

But......looking at winamp.com just now, I don't see anything regarding a shutdown and their Twitter feed doesn't mention anything. Was a there a change of heart? Do we still have hope Obi Wan Kenobi?

Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Why stop offering downloads though? Why not just release a final version and keep a basic website up?

I'll sign that petition. Winamp and Shoutcast's API abilities are pretty nice for development. They should open source it and let the fanboys take over. Give me Winamp over iTunes any day just because of the versatility it's capable of from a programming standpoint. Going to be sad if they let that go.
