Computer Envy
« on: March 09, 2009, 09:44:27 PM »
Well after the LAN party I got a little bit of envy looking at all the other systems.  So I took my income tax refund and I upgraded my system a bit.  I changed the RAM to 4 1 gig strips of OCZ Performance, swapped the processor to a AMD Athlon X2 64 5800+ (3.0 Ghz), and I got an Antec Skeleton case for it.  The next thing I need to get is a second video card so I can do SLI and up my graphics power.  But right now I am very happy with it.

Yeah I got bit too.  I been checking out cases.  But I may put off the case and upgrade my mobo, cpu, and memory.  Maybe a case for the next 150 man lan.  Maybe something like THIS
ASUS rampage 2 mobo
i7 920 @ 3.2GHZ
6GB DDR3
Dual 5770s
2x 250GB striped
1x 500GB backup
1x 160GB misc data
Danger Den watercooling for cpu and GPUs

It's a nice case except for the 'dragon' painted on it.

Actually I got the case friday and I go the motherboard and memory last night.  I was able to swap them both out without removing anything from the case.  I even had to juggle the memory a bit till it recognized everything and it was very easy.

Those CSX cases are sweet but the price is insane.

That Skeleton case is nice, should be easy to work on and tote along to a LAN, after dragging my huge case to the 160+ I envy you.

After Digr's LAN I realized that my graphics system was killing my gaming.  So I took a bit more of my tax return and got a second 8500 to do SLi in my system.  After I got the second card I checked out some charts and realized I could have gotten a 8600 for about the same price and most likely got better performance out of the one card than two 8500's.  Oh well.  At least the SLi is working and I have better graphics than before.

Hell, you could have got one 8800 gt and it would have outperformed two 8500's.
