Comcast has switched giving away free versions of McAfee virus scan to giving away free versions of Norton Internet Security 2010 (just about $80/year).

And before everyone starts yelling about how awful Norton is, do realize that starting with their 2009 version, they completely rewrote the codebase (some say it's actually a reworked product that they bought from some other company) and it's not even remotely the same product as before. It installs in less than a minute, you can put it into a game mode where it doesn't run any scans or do anything that would hurt performance. It's highly configurable and just sits in the background doing what its supposed to.
Personally, it has been a tad sensitive about random things I've downloaded. It thought a blizzard download tool was acting suspicious, so it does have a tendency to scream when a file is legit, but thus far, that is my only issue.
For joe shmoe, if they are a comcast customer, i'll recommend this. Otherwise, I'll get them to run Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and highly rated.
Just gotta wonder what McAfee did to screw up bad enough for Comcast to switch (other than having a really sucky product). Comcast has almost 16 million customers... that's no small population to have switch to your competitor.
