Case mod opinion
« on: August 01, 2006, 12:05:24 PM »
The forums dead, so heres my contribution to getting some discussion started.

I scrapped my ammobox case mod, so i'll enter my new main rig into the case mod contest at the 150ml.

I am mounting a radiator on the top of my case (Black TT Armor jr).  I plan to have UV lamps just under the top to illuminate the UV green reactive coolant, as well as green UV reactive cable sleeving for the outside fans. I can have the coolant hoses go straight down into the case or have them arc up like in the bucky edition frozenCPU cases:

Link:
http://www.frozencpu.com/cas-313.html

My radiator will be a triple 120mm and will have 6 120x38mm fans (@58db ea. at maximum speed )mounted to the radiator.  So it will longer and taller than what they have pictured.  I wont have valves on mine either.

So loop em' or have them go straight down into the case?  Also I really like Blue illumination with UV green on the inside, I think it looks cool.  Blue is sooo overused now, should I go with another lighing plan?

I like the arc-ing, but make the hostes more interesting, look at some of the guys on bit-tech, they do some amazing stuff with their tubing

I got some 1/2" ID 3/4"OD clear tubing, this stuff is hard to work with.  This as all the top shelf commercial PC watercooling stuff, I am modding some of the equipment, but not for show.

I kind of wanted a industrial theme to the case, where form follows function and everything has a purpose.  I want to make all the equipment look as clean as possible, there will be no visible bare wires etc.

edit, bit-tech has some sweet stuff.  I've lurked there for a while.

You might want to go with quieter fans. If it's too loud and we get a lot of complaints........................well.............

I think all these ideas are horrible and they won't win anything at the LAN.

Me and my dad have been thinking about making a case out of wood that way you could carve that sucker. But then we thought of how much it would take to cool it off so it wouldnt inginite. Man its a cool idea right?

I am getting a fan controller for those things, 6x58db would be insane.  I got a Ultra 7ch Fan Commander for the project (Tiger Direct overstock sale $6 FTW) but it is a PWM controller and cannot push those high CFM deltas.

It would be a sweet idea, time consuming but a good idea. Wood doesn't ignite unless it is 200-250 Degrees F. Had to look it up, and running that hot, your hardware would fail long before that I would think. And if you would make the case make it out of the heaviest wood possible like oak or something. Then again it would be hard to carry.

Uh, paper dosent burn till it hits 451F, I think wood would take a bit more heat to burn.

"Measurements made in several oak log fires indicated that the maximum  temperature of the fire (in the crevice between the logs) was 900°F to 1200°F and that the gas just outside the flame envelope was 200°F to 400°F. A temperature of  900°-1200°F is barely the ignition temperature of the volatiles and results in their slowest reaction rates. Temperatures of 200°-400°F are cool enough to stop any combustion reaction."
