Well why don't you post the driver version you are using so that if he is using a nvidia card he can download that same version and possibly make it work.

It worked for me without hassle but I'm not really impressed...

*edit* I adjusted some graphics settings. Im more impressed but it still feels like a COD4 mod instead of a new game. Not sure I want to dish out $50 yet.

Beta seems to work for me BUT it does not allow me to switch to 1280x1024 resolution.  1024x768 does not loog good on my monitor.  I installed the latest drivers from nvidia too.  I playes it for about an hour last night.  It's pretty much exactly like cod4 but with a ww2 theme.  Down to the create a class and perks.

Sorry for the double post, but we can;t edit our posts anymore.

When I switch to 1280x1024 it drops me to the desktop but the codWAWbeta.exe is still running in the processes but it doesn't show up in the running applications.  Just weird.

That is because since WWII the TV tube of life has lost some of the clarity and brightness it once had.  It is wearing out after all.  If they make a COD: Next Generation Warfare game we will probably need flashlight mods as everything will be dark all the time.

Is this definitely going to be played on Friday or Sat? If so I need to know so I can DL it and get it running. I'm not really sure if the Alienware's 6800 can handle it but I guess I could try. Also is there going to be a server hosted for it? Finally, if it is going to be hosted for Sat is someone going to host a listen or dedicated for it or would you like me to do that on one of my p4 servers (which will very very soon be a q6600 4gb ddr1066 server....w00t! Like in a month I hope. LOL)

Yeah my game does not work but I dont belive it to be because of DX9. I reinstalled my DX9 application and it didnt solve my issue. I believe it's really because I'm attempting to use the 6800 Go card which has zero support from Alienware or Nvidia. They really dont care about driver support for the 6800 which sucks but in anycase I found the highest driver set I could use was 84.22 but even then so it's not running. I'll attempt to do DX9 again but I doubt it will fix my problem. Looks like this dinosaur just doesn't have the mustard that's all

I actually wasnt even suppose to have support for that. Luckily a few of the guys at Laptop2Go.com made a custom nv4 inf file to support the 6800 past 78.34 or w/e it's original release was. In anycase, i just dont think it's compatible with it

On a positive note however, it does appear to be more stable in frame rates in CoD4 with the new update. I was chopping a good bit unfortunately in heavy gunfights. I was running around in the server and it seemed to be more stable.

That sucks that they don't support the 6 series Go chips.  NVidia still supports the 7 series and I checked and my desktop 6600 will support the 178.24 drivers.  Sees strange that the go version wouldn't still be supported.

Dunno if anyone had this problem:

I couldn't change my GFX settings without CODWAW dropping me to the desktop.  The process was running but it never came back up.  So in order to change my grfx settings I did this:

Quote
I have a workaround to change some settings:

The config file is here: C:\Documents and Settings\%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaWbeta\players\profiles\%your profile name%\config_mp.cfg

Open that file with a txt editor (preferrably notepad.exe)

You will have to search around for the settings you want. I found 'seta r_mode "1024x768" '. That allows you to change the resolution.

I have yet to find other settings such as AA (Mine was set to 4x initially which does not work to well with the lesser gt9500). So to change that, after I killed the process, the next time I ran it it wanted to start in safe mode, which I said yes. That reset to all the lowest values and that's how I changed the AA settings.

This could be the AA setting, but at AA being off the setting is confusing to me: seta r_aaSamples "1" . I am guessing that 1 = aa off but I am probably wrong. Hope this helps!

I posted that on the COD beta forum as well.  It seems some others are having that issue.

Actually there is a fix to alot of issues with video and CODWAW.  XFire.  The actual cause of my previous issue is Xfire.  Once I turned that off, I could change any video setting and it would restore correctly after the settings were changed.  There are a few reports on the CODWAW beta forums saying that closing Xfire completely solved some issues.

The 6 series was the first series they really decided to come out with powerful GPU chipsets for laptops. I remember the M7700 Alienwares were the first ones to really implement it with the 6800 Go. They later released a cheaper laptop with 6600 go's and eventually 6800 Ultra's and so on up to 7800 Go cards (and beyond now I guess). But I guess because it was first real series it hasn't been supported well at all

Also CoD5 beta is still not working for me. I've done everything everyone has posted to a t. Again I just dont think it's really supported at this time. However one would question even thinking about picking this game up if there's so many problems in the demo. How stable is the main release going to be in a few weeks? I suspect a lot of patches

Well, that was the issue with my setup.  As soon as I quit Xfire, it could change gfx settings with no problems.

Well I shouldn't say that. Back in the days of the original COD. I could never install it because xfire was enabled. It kept giving me an error. I exit out of xfire and it works fine. I believe it still does that every once in awhile.

I think that's what he meant. A bunch of us, including Czar, played the MP beta on Saturday. It was kind of bleh (to me anyways). The maps were good but that's about it. I hated the weapons. The graphics also didn't look as good.

yeah i am not sure about it either......the game did not seem to run very smooth to me....maps IMO were not that good. what there are 3 maps. i think the best one is the trainyard..what ever that one is called. the one on beach is the worst.

Yeah, I'm not that impressed.  The weapons are horrible, but it is a WWII shooter so I guess it fits the theme.  I do like the attack dogs though.  Interesting little perk.  The graphics are bland in comparison to COD4, IMO.  I do like some of the little things they added, such as the new kill cam.  I know it's not THAT new, but it shows views from rockets, 'nades and rocket propelled grenades.

I also think level design is a little...off.  I dunno what it is, but something is amiss.

Someone needs to recreate some of the BF1942 maps for COD5.  Most notably Berlin.  Although it might be that fun because of the bots.  Would still be fun to try it.

someone said the maps look like they were made from a CSS engine and i have to agree.  very bland.  I'll take cod4 anyday over cod5.  if only we could port the dogs and tanks over to cod4.   don't get me wrong it was fun but i still found myself wishing we could play cod4 instead.  Actually,  I was getting a little drunk by the end of cod5 and didn't really care.

Even if you are good at being a commander, your team will always try to vote you out.  I learned that last year at the 150 man.  I was doing well, but people were bitching anyway.

I know I would play some bf2!  Too bad you can't use your unlocked weapons on a private server though...

Id love to play some BF2.  I know Dave has a dedicated bf2 server we could use,  all we need is enough people and and it could happen.

I bet if we plan it online here with enough notice and hype, we could get a decent showing.

Who is up for Friday??  We have 3 days notice.  I know I would gladly give up a night of kicking ass in COD4 to kick some ass in BF2

codWaW worked fine except for finding the server.  I had to manually type in every server everyone else wanted to join (through the favorites interface) cuz they wouldn't show up in the main list when i refreshed.  I saw a ton of servers, but whichever the group chose to join in, it wasn't in my list.  <annoying>

Otherwise, the game played fine.  Textures were horrible but my guess was that was due to trying to keep the download size small for the demo.  I'm sure the full game will have better textures.

I could be talked into some BF2 fri or sat.  I'm on-call this week, so i might have to bail if anything happens at work, otherwise, no problems.

Well if I'm hosting a server for this...I guess I should start the install process. I had it on one of my box's already but I let a college friend bum it because he needed it for some programming classes. No worries though, I'll just start the install on the 2.4. I don't think I should have any problems having it configured and running by Sat

According to my records, the last patch for BF2 was 1.4.1. I am planning on patching the server to that point so be sure to patch up if your not already to the latest before Sat. Thanks
