Buying and selling items
« on: May 04, 2008, 01:10:17 PM »
I see that this is something new to the forums.  I have a complaint (yes already!)  THe fact that you can buy something to reduce someones post count is not nice.  I am working on getting into the 4 digits *like it matters* but I definately wouldn't want someone to reduce my post count.  Just my $.02.
That's Mr. Deception to you.

I disagree. It sounds like fun to me, besides, you can increase your post count by 100 if you wanted to in order to counter their downgrade... and if that happens, then they've wasted their points, so it evens out. No nerfs, please! =X

NA! i think it's still kinda stupid, your post count to some is important and shows their devotion to the site and to fites.  To some all they want is recognition of their devotion and giving others the ability to take away from that is kinda mean.  Personally I don't care.  But i think it undermines others.

ok I think we should all try to reduce decepticon's post count to negative numbers just for the hell of it.  JK.

I agree with dave....everything else is cool but your post count like on most sites determine your credibility and commitment to the site.

Postcount means jack Crap, to be quite blunt.

Just because you have a high post count does not, in any way, add to your "credability". This is a very common misconception. That just because your postcount is 5, does NOT mean you know diddly squat about what you're talking about. Just the same, a high postcount could also mean you post a ton of useless posts/topics.  Nor does it confirm commitment to the site. It just means that you're on the internet more than anyone else.

The postcount is simply a psychological vice that forums uphold. Nothing more

Example:

Mr.Tibs - postcount: 642
xankriz - postcount: 456

I think its a pretty big no-brainer where credibility lays, regardless of postcount.

Well of course. But I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. People not posting doesn't have anything to do with the significance(or lack thereof) of postcount "credibility".

To be honest, this is a very inane topic to be arguing over. The thing was added for fun and to be funny. I really never expected it to cause such a stir (and it shouldn't!).

Post count has nothing to do with credibility, but it DOES however show how dedicated you are to the site.  If someone was to reduce my post count, i don't want to have to 'spend money' to get back to where it was.  And what if you got alot of people to get someone's post count down like Rathe said?  That would really piss me off.  And I know you guys (well most of you) wouldn't do something like that but still.

To me, my post count is a direct correlation to how dedicated I am to THIS SITE AND THIS GROUP ALONE!  Others may think that is pointless, or I 'spend too much time on the interwebs' but I guess some of those people may be taking their dedication to FITES or this site - or any other boards they may be a part of and have a passion for - for granted.  I don't.

I don't see this site or group as just a blase thing to do.  I enjoy playing games with you guys and when new members join, I think they get a feeling of that comradery by seeing how many posts that we post which will in turn make them want to be more active on the boards and with the group.

I'll be honest, I see one hit wonders and think that those people either don't care, or just post to get info about the lans and events...and that's it.  There's nothing wrong with that, but still.....

And on Rathe's note, I'll be banking all of my money, just in case everyone decides to screw me over.... ;)
