Brenner + Hyundai
« on: April 19, 2007, 06:13:12 AM »
Anyone have experience with the Brenner family of dealers in the Harrisburg area?  I'm looking for a nice used car.  Found a Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 2006, 32,000 miles with power everything, sunroof, alloy wheels, 4 disc brakes, etc.  I've already gotten them down to a price that I no longer feel i'm getting ripped off and will probably try to get them down further.

Anyone had any good or bad experiences with Sonata's or the Brenner dealers?  This one is the Cadillac dealer on paxton.

From what I know, NEVER EVER BUY A HYUNDAI!!!!!!  They are quite possibly some of the worst cars you could buy.  You would be much better off with an older year japanese car.  I seriously think you will regret owning that car.  Just my $0.02

My sister has a elantra (2000) never had a problem with it. The car had recalls for the exhaust leak and the passenger side window motor went out. The exhaust was covered under warranty, but the window motor wasn't but it wasn't to expensive to fix. Pain the ass to get back in yes, but hey you buy the car because you like and it is there to serve a purpose. My dad has a 1992 Ford F250, the one with the big 460 V8. Gas gussler? Yes, but he only keeps it because it serves his purpose of hauling things. But hey there are some very good japanese cars out there. I wish I had a jap car, my cavalier is going out only 103k miles on it and the head gasket is gonna blow up.

I actually bought a Kia Rio back in 02 I think.  I have put 82,000 miles on it so far and the only thing to go out on it so far are the rear wheel bearings.  I know the newer ones have a 10year/100,000 mile warranty that I think completely transfers to a second owner.  I have been very happy with it.  And I got almost my entire ex-wifes family to buy one.
Never, but never question the engineers judgement.

I have a friend who bought an Elantra, i think it was back in 2001.  Previously he had a crappy little Daihatsu that he would beat up all the time.  I figured when he got a new car, he would take care of it.  I was wrong.  He beat the crap out of that Elantra and it just took it.  In our area, we had a rather decent incline coming up to a railroad track and he would always jump it bottoming out the shocks.  His parent's lane was typically under about a foot of water during the spring and early summer and he would fly through sending water out in every direction.  180s, a few tries at 360s, a mail box or two.  One time he rode it so hard that he barely got it to stop the brakes were so hot.

So, needless to say, seeing an Elantra take that kind of abuse definitely got kudos from me.  I've heard the latest Sonata has reliability up there with the Camry and Accord.  My brother told me Hyundai used to be a cheap crappy car a long time ago, but they've apparently decided a 100,000 power train warranty and construction/engineering matching that of the Japanese auto makers would get people to take notice.  I think it's working.
