Title: Breaking not Battlefield 3 news!
Post by: vincegun on August 17, 2011, 07:38:43 PM
Modern Warfare 3 is supposedly getting dedicated servers on PC. A threat to BF3, maybe? No, probably not. This doesn't even up the ante, I think. It SHOULD push EA/DICE into doing the right thing, but I doubt it'll happen.

This also excites me but I don't think I'll pick it up until the servers are released and running.

I was really surprised by this move.  Especially when they later announced that the community could host them.  Which means mods mods mods!

You gotta hand it to DICE though.  They are going head to head with CoD which is no easy task.

They obviously get kick backs from their servers hosts for the servers they every month.  Its the only logical explanation behind having dedi's and NOT letting us host them.

Its fine for now and its a step in the right direction.  At the end of the day it comes down to $$ which CoD has based off its name alone.  If it takes another BF game for them to generate some more money I'll support them.  I find it hard to believe that if CoD is going this direction then the NEXT Battlefield wont.  I imagine contracts and agreements are already worked out for BF3.  BC3 or BF4 im crossing my fingers I'll be able to host my own server.

another major reason is people pirating and running their servers on hamachi so others with pirated clients can play.

Since when did BC2 get pirated servers?  This was a dead project for some time.

I'm pretty sure the meat piracy is the reason

I believe he meant that piracy is what lead to the server provider agreements for bc2 eliminating pirated servers.
