Okay. So I see that almost everyone and their grandma will be playing BF2 at the 100man lan in Feb. While I'm hardcore in to RTS games like Red Alert 2, C&C Generals, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (old school!) and more... I still want to be able to partake in the major game(s) played at this lan.
So..my question..
I know the minimum system requirements for BF2 (as listed on amazon.com) are:
------------------------
Windows XP (32 bit version) with Administrator rights
1.7 GHz or faster processor
512 MB or more RAM
Supported 128 MB video card with the newest manufacturer drivers
------------------------
I do fit within the min requirements with:
Windows XP
1.8 Ghz Pentium IV processor
512 MB of RAM
nVidia GeForce 3 Ti500 (Ti isnt a bad series really.) 128 mb
I can run most games on it. . CS:S, AOE III...
Even though I fall within the min requirements, will I have a nasty choppy laggy yucky time with it? 3 frames a second? I don't mind turning down the settings all the way to enjoy the game with others.
I -will- be getting a new comp in the spring with my tax return however, I wont have it in time for the lan.
What are your thoughts?

I run on a P4 3.0 Ghz, with 1 GB Ram and a Radeon 9500 Pro.
The only place I have probs are on the Video Side.
I have to run in 1024x768 with medium settings.
So the question here is... how important is visual effects?
If you are happy with just being able to play the game without lag.. you are probably fine (I'd still bump up to 1 GB of ram tho). If you are a visual nut, and cant play on anything less than perfect graphics... I'd buy a new Video Card.
-
Sorry, just re-read your post.
As long as you are fine with turning down visual settings... you should be just fine! BF2 is about 10% more resource hungry than CS:S. So if it looks good wiht CS:S... you should be fine!
-
Id be happy with 8 bit nintendo graphics if it mean semi-lag free fragging with comrades. Hmm..more mem -would- be nice.
*checks some websites out*
Would the BF2 demo (..there is a demo, right?) be a good indication of how the full version would run?
-
yes, it would. Graphics are the same.
-
i run a p4 @ 3.6 GHZ, Radeon 9800 XT, all maxed out, no lag, same as pride said, I think your video card might hurt, but you might be alright
-
emm actually... ive found that having a gig o ram is more important with bf2...
and seeing as we are gonna be playing 6vs6 you shouldnt really have a vid issue... but mem is always your enemy with bf...
if you find that you cant run it with your card i might be able to loan you a 5700ultra for 100ml...
but i would just buy more ram and see if you can play
-
i ran bf2 demo fine with 512 on an a64 3000
-
Actually...I cant even get the bf2 demo to load. I can install it.. get the latest nvidia drivers, restart..run the demo shortcut and nothing... the screen goes black and the monitor clicks...like normal, but then it just goes back to the desktop and I can go about my normal business. I uninstalled, reinstalled, rolled back video driver..unrolled them. same same same... suggestions?
Is this a sign that it wont work?
-
i had a bf1942 issue, i could hear EA GAMES and it shut off it was registery problem, but im not sure about yours
-
Hmm...perhaps my GeForce 3 Ti500 isnt good enough?
-
yea man! you need a true direct X 9 video card and that means a geforce fx5700 on up or a radeon 9550 on up... Sorry but they didnt make that game really freindly with the older cards for some reason. That is why the game kicks you to desktop on startup.

Looks like I`ll be taking you up on that offer. Any chance I could borrow it now through the Lan so I can practice that game? .. would you sell it?
-
just IM me somtime... we can work sumthing out
-
Actually, I ordered the new comp early with a 6600GT, woot! Should be here Friday.

I use a GeForce 5600 FX Ultra. So it can go one level lower :)
-
i hear the game runs good wit the 6600gt
-
Its a go. And my new rig has a 6600gt and its gorgeous. Used a ton o gift cards I got at christmas and birthday (3 days apart ya know) to grab all the major games played at the 100ml..games I wanted anyways.

what kind of frame rate did you get with that card? what settings? I'm getting a fx5900 soon and was wondering what kind of fps i can expect.

Well, I have most of the settings on low and it runs pretty smoothly but I don't know the framerate offhand. What's the command to check it in BF2?
-
pull down the console and type "renderer.drawfps 1" without the quotes.
