BF 2142 Beta Test

Graphically the game looks pretty similar to Battlefield 2, with comparable polygon counts, so people who have the last game should have no problem running Battlefield 2142 on their PCs.

This came from the review over at http://www.firingsquad.com so there is hope for playing this game without a new system.

Trust me you will probably need a new system when this comes out. It is sad really because Rathe can run BF2 on a AMD XP and I can't run it on my AMD 64 4000+ San Diego core. God I hate EA games, that and I just got GTASA working again, and beat a mission I was stuck on, "Los Desparados". If anyone has trouble with that mission let me know. Now off to get previous Nvidia drivers because the new ones wont let me run it.

as long as that card is a true DX 9 card it should run.  hell it ran on a computer of mine with a athlon xp2500 and a nvidia fx5900.  So it should run on yours

Hey don't knock it...I am only running an Athlon XP 2600+.  Yeah it takes a minute or two to load but it isn't that bad.

I still think it is a driver issue. And on Dwg's comment about it being a true DX9 card. Some video cards can use DX9, but in the same right those video cards just can't use the features DX9 uses. Perfect example a friend of mine got HL2 this past christmas. He used to have a GF4 MX 440, his system had the latest DX9 on it, but he still couldn't run the game. It always came up with an error to the tune of your video card doesn't support DX9 then it would close. Since I can't find the right drivers for my nvidia card at the moment. I am using the 84.21 drivers. The drivers I know work, since I can get back to playing GTASA.

On another note I think this is the longest thread that I have started that hasn't become a complete flame war.

Having the DX9 software loaded is not the same as having a DX9 supported card. The GeForce 4 series is only a DX8 level card IIRC, so no, it wouldn't support DX9.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

yea tib listen to sully.  You should be running BF2 without a problem.  I hope you have your mobo drivers installed.  sounds a bit elementary but running the newer video card drivers shouldnt keep you from playing this game.

Furhtermore, you are talking about HL2, which again, IIRC, will scale all the way back to DX7 levels if needed. Unless he was forcing DX9 mode, he should not have had an error like that.

I always force DX9, who really wants to go back to DX7. Hey they have pre-orders at circuitcity. Preorder and you get a 64MB usb thumb drive, with exclusive Crysis and C&C3 Tiberium Wars content on it. If anyone can get me the correct driver for my video card off of nvidia.com or some other site.

The card is a EVGA 6600LE. I need to get the right driver, please help me out.

But you can't force DX9 if your hardware does not support it! It will only go back to DX7 if that's all the higher your hardware supports. If your card supports DX9, it will use it. If it only supports DX8, it will use that. You can't force a GeForce 3 or 4 to run DX9 shaders, it simply doesn't have the hardware to support it.
