Head on over to Fileplanet, they are holding more beta testing next week. I would try it out if my computer didn't suck.

don't you have to be a subscriber  on fileplanet to get the beta?

yes. And if a friend attepts to give you the client and cd key, it wont work, unless your friend never used the key. They did a good job keeping it secure this time. Once it consumes the key, you cannot reuse it. So yeah.  Not that I tried that or anything .....

Graphically the game looks pretty similar to Battlefield 2, with comparable polygon counts, so people who have the last game should have no problem running Battlefield 2142 on their PCs.

This came from the review over at http://www.firingsquad.com so there is hope for playing this game without a new system.

Trust me you will probably need a new system when this comes out. It is sad really because Rathe can run BF2 on a AMD XP and I can't run it on my AMD 64 4000+ San Diego core. God I hate EA games, that and I just got GTASA working again, and beat a mission I was stuck on, "Los Desparados". If anyone has trouble with that mission let me know. Now off to get previous Nvidia drivers because the new ones wont let me run it.

6600LE 256MB(Video)
Kingston PC-3200 2GB

More or less with conflicting drivers I suppose.

as long as that card is a true DX 9 card it should run.  hell it ran on a computer of mine with a athlon xp2500 and a nvidia fx5900.  So it should run on yours

Hey don't knock it...I am only running an Athlon XP 2600+.  Yeah it takes a minute or two to load but it isn't that bad.

I still think it is a driver issue. And on Dwg's comment about it being a true DX9 card. Some video cards can use DX9, but in the same right those video cards just can't use the features DX9 uses. Perfect example a friend of mine got HL2 this past christmas. He used to have a GF4 MX 440, his system had the latest DX9 on it, but he still couldn't run the game. It always came up with an error to the tune of your video card doesn't support DX9 then it would close. Since I can't find the right drivers for my nvidia card at the moment. I am using the 84.21 drivers. The drivers I know work, since I can get back to playing GTASA.

On another note I think this is the longest thread that I have started that hasn't become a complete flame war.

Having the DX9 software loaded is not the same as having a DX9 supported card. The GeForce 4 series is only a DX8 level card IIRC, so no, it wouldn't support DX9.

yea tib listen to sully.  You should be running BF2 without a problem.  I hope you have your mobo drivers installed.  sounds a bit elementary but running the newer video card drivers shouldnt keep you from playing this game.

Furhtermore, you are talking about HL2, which again, IIRC, will scale all the way back to DX7 levels if needed. Unless he was forcing DX9 mode, he should not have had an error like that.

I always force DX9, who really wants to go back to DX7. Hey they have pre-orders at circuitcity. Preorder and you get a 64MB usb thumb drive, with exclusive Crysis and C&C3 Tiberium Wars content on it. If anyone can get me the correct driver for my video card off of nvidia.com or some other site.

The card is a EVGA 6600LE. I need to get the right driver, please help me out.

But you can't force DX9 if your hardware does not support it! It will only go back to DX7 if that's all the higher your hardware supports. If your card supports DX9, it will use it. If it only supports DX8, it will use that. You can't force a GeForce 3 or 4 to run DX9 shaders, it simply doesn't have the hardware to support it.

Part of the problem tibs may be the fact that you are OC'ing your card to hell and gone.  Try using the current drivers at stock settings and see what happens.....

Why do all the people always assume it is Overclocking.  TO be quite frank with you, if you have any clue what your doing, you run tests on not only your Vid Card, but the rest of your system all at once, for ex, Prime 95 in Max Mem and CPU, while running ATI Tool, while copying files back and forth between drives, that way not only your computer heats up, but it will also test for artifacts.  If you are able to do that for at least 24 hours perfectly stable, then your overclock will most likely be forever stable (unless someone gets lazy and doesn't want to buy canned air).

Stop blaming it on overclocking and start blamming it on horribly written games, that require about 400mb more than an out of the box Windows Update.  Lets go through the BF2 patches, I think I remember them all (1.0, 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.1, 1.2, 1.21, 1.22, 1.3, 1.4).  Let me know if I added in one extra or 1 that I left out.  That is 10 revisions.  Disgusting.

Overclocking if done right is never the problem, when done wrong it will always be the problem.

Let me throw one back at you...

I once had an Asus motherboard that when overclocked the FSB just 1MHz, stability went all to hell. It wouldn't run more than 10-15 minutes before having a complete system lockup. At stock speeds, it was rock solid.

Also, the assertion was that his card is OC'd "to hell and gone", therefore the thought that the OC is the cause of the problem is a very valid one, given that, in your own argument, "if done right is never the problem, when done wrong it will always be the problem". Sounds to me like this OC was done wrong.

Game over....

Sully has spoken. So I think I am just going to get the expansion and OC the card to a bfg spec card. Which is 325/400, might last alot longer. Here is an interesting discovery. I still have my 5900XT with that Artic Cooler on it, I have had to to outrageous speeds. Never once took a dive on me. I never had to raise the voltage when letting rivatuner overclock it. I believe I chose a horrible cooler, but since Artic Cooler doesn't make one for my new card I am SOL.
