Battlefield 4 Pre-load
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:45:56 PM »
If you have any of the pre-requisites for Battlefield 4 (pre-order, MoH-Worf Fighter, Premium, etc.) the pre-load of BF4 is up on Origin now.  About 5.7GB and EA's servers are getting destroyed - I'm averaging about 30Mbps on my 150Mbps+ connection.

Anybody up for a little beta fun sometime this week?  Goes open for everyone on Oct. 4.

Perhaps. Just a reminder that we're doing BF3 for game night this friday.

I'll definitely be getting in on the open beta, but I haven't done any of the pre-reqs to get in ahead of time. I am interested in seeing how different this new installment will be.
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

I'm all over this one.

DICE has said the game is actually going 64bit now. I'm assuming this is because of the new consoles. Also, can't wait to try commander mode on my tablet when the full thing arrives!

So I could theoretically pair my tablet to my girl's phone via bluetooth and use her 4g connection while in the car to play bf4 commander mode.

Giggity.

Already DL'd. Here is hoping to a more stable launch than what we saw for BF3

I want to get in on this BF4 action. I'm ready to give in and rip it up with all of you; but, Origin won't take my money  :'(

I want to do the BF4 thing, but I have been pretty good at not paying full price for a game in a long time. I may have to wait for the summer to get a good sale, but it's in my future.

What does this mean for game night? I'll be begging people to fire up old copies of BF3 for a while.
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

Looks like Commander will not be enabled during the beta, which is a shame.  That also means other features may not be fully implemented... these are the things I need to see before I buy BF4.  I need to know VOIP is there on PC in the game (no external client) and it's functional.  I need to know the new game modes are balanced.  I'd love to see Commander in action... as it is, I'll play the beta, but that's the stuff that's going to get my $50 (or eventually $100, I guess, with Premium).

Also, Open Beta is going to be crazy, if it's anything like BF3 (and I'm guessing it'll be even bigger) you'll have hour waits to get into a server.  Closed beta (1st-3rd) may be just as crazy.

Shanghai is HUGE. It looks like every building is something you can get on top of with the help of a heli and/or parachute. I can actually *control* my chute fall a hell of a lot better than I ever did in bf3. I feel like I'm running around in a city with actual substance. That is... there are multiple street levels and I feel like I need to work to get around the buildings to move towards my objective. I dunno how to best describe that. Also, going to the top of the central tower at C-flag and looking down is sweeeeeet.

Puddles on the street show reflections of the buildings around them.

Looked at task manager and saw 50% cpu utilization and 1.8gigs of ram being used on high detail preset.

Didn't take long to get into a server. 48/64. I'm sure that'll change after 4pm EST.

Liking the recon vehicle lock-on change. Using it turns everything to ?thermal? vision and most everything on the screen is green and junk. You get a lock, you get points. You HOLD the lock and people successfully damage the offending vehicle, you get points.

So far, so good. "Beta" aside, it's running just fine at 1920x1080 with medium preset on my amd 8150/16gb/gtx460. High detail seemed to run well enough, but I figured I'd tone it down to keep everything smooth.

VoIP works.  Game mode balance....not sure what you are wanting to see. Conquest with 5 points and even teams seems pretty balanced to me.  Although the only two modes available are conquest and domination.  Game feels good...like the weapons have a certain punch to them that is pretty satisfying.  Recon class has the C4 back!

EDIT: As of 10PM tonight I could not play anymore.  Got stuck at the loading screen until the game crashed.  It seems there are a lot of people having this issue.  Just installed nVidia beta drivers which caused a lot of FPS drops for me and rolled back to WHQL.  That's when the stuck at loading screen issue happened.  Performed a clean install as well.

NINJA EDIT:  It certainly has everything to do with punkbuster.  Dice must have JUST enabled PB on all the servers.  And even balance is getting HAMMERED.  PB isn't auto updating in game so it times out and crashes the exe.
