I've seen some rumors saying you might not be able to pre-order it but it will be available on Steam.  I think the whole fiasco with Crysis 2 happened before Alice: Madness Returns (EA was the publisher) was released and there wasn't a pre-order available for it and came out on Steam on day 1. So yea take from this what you will.

To No One’s Surprise, All PC Installs of Battlefield 3 will Require Origin.http://kotaku.com/5830194/to-no-ones-surprise-all-pc-installs-of-battlefield-3-will-require-origin

What say you all? I'm still not getting it until it goes on sale for $30 or whatever close price point (helloooooo Portal2 for $30!), but is this going to influence anyone's decision on buying it? I don't really care about the service used to launch the game, personally. If the game runs and is fun, then that's good enough for me.

Origin = Crappy ass Fudge Vagina of a steam rip off.

Their web portlet is junk, navigation is horrible, and those Fudgetards even charged tax on the pre-order...

It would have been nice if it was offered through Steam for organizational purposes however this game looks so kickass (IMO) that the whole origin thing isn't a big deal. I have it preordered as well and I can't wait. I think if you wait for the price drop to $30 your going to be waiting for a long time. I waited for the price drop for BC2 and even though there's still a big community it feels like I've missed the best part.

I'll buy the retail copy.  Sometimes I want to play BF2, its been years since I even had it installed on a PC, but dammit if EA thinks they are going to make me buy another copy the can DIAF.

Our waiting for a big price drop is for other reasons (READ: Lack of local LAN support). If they're not going to give me a full game, I'm not going to give them full price.

Read through this thread from the beginning and you'll understand our stance on this a bit better.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

I got my copy through impulse.  Not a bad deal since Travis bought it for me.  I can't wait to play it cause it looks freaking awesome.

I honestly thought the price drop on BC2 didn't seem to take that long. How long was it before it first went on sale on steam?

I had no idea about the LAN support since I just got back into the PC gaming world not too long ago. It's a real shame if they don't include it. I still won't mind paying for it though since only a small percentage of my time spent playing games would be at LANs. Are we doomed to play outdated games if companies stop supporting LANs?

Yes and no.... But more yes and less no.

Well that's interesting. Just got an email from EA saying:

"As a special thank you for pre-ordering Battlefield 3 early at Origin, we're offering you a bonus PC digital download game. Please apply the code below at the shopping cart to redeem one PC Digital version of one of our recommended shooter titles: Mass Effect™ 2, Dead Space™ 2 or Medal of Honor™. The price will be reduced to $0 after applying the code at your shopping cart."

Cool, I guess. Dead Space 2 is the only game in the list I don't have.. yay free game!
