Okay, here's the initial skinny.
When you launch the game, you have a choice of either DX9 or DX11. No DX10, oddly enough. I'm limited to DX9, but I don't really care as it doesn't matter when the you-know-what hits the fan... because you're freaking out over trying to shoot the xenos. When you're in-game, there's a menu option for DX11 effects so I can't wait to play with those bad boys.
Despite all that, it looks great. I'm running 1680x1050 with no AA or AF but with all details enabled as best can be and it's smooooooth. And honestly, with all these shadows in the initial enclosed areas, AA and such is worthless. You're constantly freaking out over the motion tracker in the human campaign to notice much.
Environments are well-designed and you can definitely feel the console-itis in the game design, but Rebellion has made such a STELLAR single-player experience (I'm barely into the human part and loving it) that it just all works out very well. Areas that need shadows for the Aliens are very fun (SCARY) to run around in, especially when you're getting mobbed by them.
Sounds are very faithful. The motion tracker sets me on edge, the guns firing sound like they came from the movie and the game automatically runs in 5.1. I had a cloaked Predator laugh behind me and it felt like he was right there, but when I turned around, there was nothing except the laughter fading from the front speakers. F-ing'A!
Such a simple review requires a simple ending.
BUY THE DAMN GAME!!!!!
Let's not forget they said they're supporting dedicated server and we have the 2-4 co-op in the survival mode. This is definitely going to be making the rounds at the Fites200.
