Anyone remember BBS's?
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:27:16 AM »
Im sure a few of you remember the old school, early/mid 1990's BBS systems. Before the internet was available to so many people. When you hadda dial in to a machine in your town and play games and chat with other users.

Well, i was given an old dell and made it in to a dedicated BBS box running the latest version of Synchronet along with some of the classes BBS games we couldn't stop playing: Legend of the Red Dragon (LORD), Barren Realms Elite, and Usurper.

telnet://czaralex.com to check it out and bring back those good `ole days!   :bravo:

during college me and my friends were on a mud all the time called shadowmud.  There is nothing like blowing off a class so you can get one more level.

Ah. MOO's. Im quite involved in them. I host t hem on my linux box and do some administrating/programming on a few.

For those interested, I programmed a chat system that links several MOOs together. Installation code and other information is available at www.czaralex.com

I think I broke it....

Whenever I log in, it asks me if I want to search for new messages. It doesn't matter if I choose yes or no, I always get the error:

Quote

[] Search all groups for new messages? No
Specified COMMAND search directory bad

Microsoft(R) MS-DOS(R) Version 5.00
             (C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1991.

C:\>

If I choose yes, I get a listing of topics, but then the same error at the end about the specified COMMAND search directory is bad.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Wow that was about 10 years ago... I have no clue where that stuff is anymore. But I did hit up LORD pretty good thismorning... I had to find a damn ANSI font for iTerm, but then I was rocking in full ANSI color!

All this has got me going on Mudding again...might have to setup a mud on my slackware box just for the hell of it.  I'll let you guys know when I get it up and running and I'll make you admins so you can code areas and monsters and stuff.
