Symantec Antivirus 10.1, it's easy on system resources.  Avast and AVG are good too.

Temple uses symantec corporate, so I get it for free.  Before I came here, I used symantec corporate too.  It is really lean and not full of bs like norton retail is.

AVG is free as well.  I have used it for 3 years and installed it on many clients computers with no complaints.  The update is quick and automated and it is very light on resources.
Never, but never question the engineers judgement.

I've used just about every av software out there and all the ones mentioned here are kick ass.  I use Avast.  I'm not going to suggest what to use but more what not to use.  Stay away from McAfee.  I installed that a while back because it came free with Comcast cable.  It had to be the largest resource hog I've ever had.  If the firewall had an issue it wouldn't block traffic like Zone Alarm until it got fixed it would just shut down and you'd be stuck naked on the net.   Their AV product was the same too, if it had an issue with an update instead of trying to reload or asking you to reboot it would just turn off virus scan.     I'll never go back to McAfee.

And make sure you wash well. Bacteria and fungal agents may build up. :) AND STOP DOING THOSE DIRTY HOAS!!

I personally use Avast. I liked it better than AVG, but that is just a personal prefrence. No so much for performance, but for "feel." :)

I tried finding an article I read not long ago comparing several dozen AV programs but can't find it again. If I remember correctly, their top choice was Kaspersky, followed closely by (gasp!) the AOL Active Virus Shield. Actually not that suprising since it uses the Kaspersky engine for its detection.
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!
