2 - day LAN feedback
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:55:22 AM »
I have heard quite a few people mention doing a 36 hour event with a big chunk of "free play" in the middle so that people could sleep if they wanted to.

Doing this would likely double our room costs.

First off, is a 36 hour event something we should consider?  And if so, would you be willing to pay more per seat to allow it to happen?

Rather than $15 VIP and $20 Regular, maybe $25 VIP and $30 Regular?

I wouldn't have a problem with it. A break is definitely needed at some point and if there's more gamers at the next one this would help cover the costs more.

I would definately be all for it. And I may actually be willing to split room costs with people so I have a place to CnC (Crash and Crap). I too, like Cloud, am wondering when this would be planned for.

36hrs would be great but I'm not sure if it would work out for the majority of people that attend your lans. I was shocked to see so many people leave so early during a 24hr lan. Especially with horrible weather that was only going to get a little better as the day went on.  Anyway, I would not mind paying a little bit more for a 36hr lan but people would actually need to stay the whole time.

I think people were leaving early due to exhaustion and the inability to play anymore. They didn't want to go to sleep on account of missing something but by the time early morning came they just didn't have the focus to play more. With 36hours and a period of just free play more people would be willing to stay since they'd be able to rest at some point, IMHO.

That's exactly my point. Some people choose not to sleep and screw themselves because they can't handle the rest of the lan.

Dare I say it... I think 24 hrs is too long.  I know that around 5AM after the CS tourney I was really really hurtin for some sleep.  I tried to stick it out for the end prize drawings but simply couldn't.

I didn't want to miss any of the LAN action!

Would maybe a longer event work out at a venue where rent wasn't a drawback? IE daycare?

Well, also consider that even if the gamers wanted to go to sleep, they had to buy a room.  There was absolutely no room to sleep in there.  You would be blocking the rows, unless you were sleeping near the wall.  Then you got lucky.

I would suggest getting a bigger room, if possible.  I constantly kept bumping into the people in back of me.  The rows were clogged.  It was like 100 man sex ;[
