back in '03 Sin moved his DNS and web servers. FithLan has been around for a lot longer than just 3 years. As for being hacked it was hacked about a year ago. That is why the themes were messed up for so long. I am not sure who did it or how bad the damage was. Digr and I are currently discussing whether to use phpnuke or another content delivery system. When it is back up I will be posting more details.
PhpNuke is probably the reason you were hacked, there are many holes and bored script kiddies to exploit them. Just look at what packetstorm has to offer
link. Mix that with phpbb2 (another very vulnerable software
package) and you have a very bad combo. It's very easy to use, but you compromise security. Nuke is also bloated as hell, but thats another issue.
The security nut in me says to code your own CMS. Easiser said then done, but you get a more secure (if security through obscurity, but one site running the code vs a few thousand is a bit better) soloution, and you coded it, so it's easier to customize.
Mambo has a lot of potential, but it's gonna suffer the same fate as firefox did, as more people begin to use it more people are gonna look for ways to exploit it. But that would be my current CMS of choice.
Also backups are your friend.
