100 ML Touraments
« on: November 18, 2005, 08:41:18 AM »
Just wondering if/when the tournament listings would be available and what level of detail would be posted. I know it is some time out, but with my friends it usually takes some time to get a commitment to do any type of event so the earlier I have the information the easier I can convince others to come out and play.

I assume the BF1942 will be 6v6 again.
Is there any chance of increasing the team size for BF2 since there's the nifty new commander role to be filled? Will we definiately be using the smaller (16 man maps)? Will only standard weapon packages be available?

Anyone else like the idea of 7 man teams for BF2? Just curious. Thanks.

I suppose we could talk about giving teams that request a commander to allow 7, as long as the commander is not involved in the fight.  The command would have to be labeled as such prior to the game, and he would have to not participate in the combat action.

As for when this will all come out.  January.

Hmmm, I would definitely agree for some 7v7 to utilize the new role of Commander, afterall we should be getting the most out of Battlefield 2.  It's early enough to warn everybody to find 7 members too.

1 could, of course, argue that 6 v 6 doesnt need a commander.  So maybe we just say if you want a commander THAT bad, you only fight with 5.

we arent talking about 64 on 64 here.  6v6 probably doenst need a commander.

Perhaps for the 7 on 7 option the commander would be limited to only defending/rapairing his command trailer, the arty, and the UAV from spec op punks. (Aside from his special commander options), on the other hand, should you go with only 6 on 6.. then the commander should definately be allowed to take to the field with the squad.

I am just thinking of all of the headaches caused if we say the 7th person in the game cant do anything but "command".  Then you get into a he said she said battle if someone sees the commander jump into a battle, or defend the radar tower or sometihng.

I think it would be easier to say 6v6, commander is up to you.

That sounds like the best way to run things, although 7 man teams might make things a little more action packed.  The real juggle of the commander is balancing how much to fight and how much to "command."  Placing restrictions on what a player can and can't do in a tourney would probably be impossible to enforce.  Pride is right, playing with or without a commander should be up to the team.

I agree, use of commander should be up to the individual teams. I played as a commander for the first time at last weekend's LAN in York. It was actually quite fun for me, and my team needed me to find them targets sometimes, so I happily obliged.

It was also nice to be able to take out a cluster of armored vehicles with the artillery if the other team was foolish enough to get bunched up for a long period of time :)
Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Why not quit worrying about restrictions and just do 7 v 7?  Who ever said they had to have restrictions?

Just my 2 cents, errr 13 cents...

Personally I worry about a lack of action in the bf2 tourney.  really.. the game is a squad based game, not 6 players running about by themselves in several different directions capping flags and running to the next.  I'm sure whatever FITES decides will be fun, but IMO it'll just be a repeat of the bf1942 tourney.  Personally, I'm just looking forward to the normal gaming aside from the tourneys.
