YORK DAILY RECORD: Post Event News Article
« on: August 20, 2007, 07:52:36 AM »
Aug 19, 2007 — Four guys sat in the Holiday Inn lobby next to their computer equipment and a case of caffeine-heavy Bawls Guarana Friday evening.

They'd need the beverage to survive FITES - the Frag Infinity Tournament (Extreme Slaying), a LANParty - or Local Area Network Party- of 40-consecutive hours held at the hotel in West Manchester Township this weekend.

"Nothing like overdosing on caffeine," said David Broadwater, 20, of Columbia.

When registration began at 6 p.m. Friday, Broadwater and his friends lugged their computers and accessories into the conference room and set up in a corner. Gamers from across the country connected hard drives, monitors and keyboards, wheeled in their home office chairs and set up cases of Mountain Dew, sleeping bags and pillows for the chance to play in the same room with opponents they usually only meet online.

They plugged in their gear and went to play. Gamers could sign up for tournaments or play a game with whoever was offering.

The section of the article about TFM vs TeamHappy was during the UT  3v3 tournament. And yes that was us White Tigers standing behind them groaning at how the map they were playing and how they were playing it was too even. 5 minute game took 20minutes lol.

Actually, that was our second match against TFM. The first one we also lost 1-0 in which they scored about 7:30-8 minutes into the match. BOTH games were very evenly matched with both teams communicating very well with each other. That second match could have gone either way on a few occasions (I actually made it halfway across the forest with the flag once and into our own base far into overtime). It was one of the most memorable matches I've ever played in any competition! It did go for a lot longer than planned but neither team wanted to give up a point plus everyone was shooting well. In the end, I'm not sure how they were able to grab our flag and get out of our base just as our two attackers got pwned near their base. Perfect timing allowed them to win. All they had to do was keep us from exiting our own base in the end.

Agreed, crazy good match from both ends...I kept on getting picked off by Smilie over on the right side of that map...We got lucky when Nitro was able to cross half way through and I was able to go invisible to make sure no one got close to take him out...It was a crazy match followed by a humiliating defeat again by White Tigers (though we knew we didn't have a shot since they have that crazy Fragile kid on there team :-(
