The SSD Anthology
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:35:57 PM »
Anandtech has posted a very extensive look into the state of the Solid State Drive (SSD) market and pulls the covers off of some of the marketing BS that gets thrown out there to sell these drives. He not only calls the SSD manufacturers out, but also ends up making a difference in what OCZ eventually ships, atoning for some of their past misgivings.

I will warn you that this article is extremely long; 31 pages to be exact. I just spent the last two hours digesting every single word, chart, and table in the article and I step away from it with a far better understanding of how SSD's work, what matters in SSD performance, and which manufacturers make a quality product.

If you're doing a system rebuild anytime soon and you're eyeing a pair of Western Digital VelociRaptors in a RAID 0 setup, you may want to think twice. Take a look at Anand's review and prepare to be schooled in the zen of SSD.

Please just walk away. I don't want to have to stand here and say something so awesome that I'll have to remember it the rest of the day. Thank you!

Long, but definitely a great article and very much a worthy read.  I'll admit I sort of have a newfound respect for OCZ as well.
