Title: NVIDIA Power Pack Released!
Post by: Agent4054 on August 13, 2008, 07:38:46 PM
NVIDIA yesterday released the "Force Within" Power Pack, which includes the new official GeForce driver, 177.83. This driver release includes the NVIDIA PhysX Platform driver 8.08 and can be picked up from their "Force Within" page (http://www.nvidia.com/content/forcewithin/us/download.asp).

The power pack includes several applications, the free UE3 Warmonger FPS, several tech demos, an alpha benchmarking utility for the upcoming UE3 social networking game Nurien (which, when I ran it, was artifact city and ran like turds), and the UT3 PhysX Mod.

Do note that the power pack download page uses some awful Java download manager, so if you can find these packages elsewhere, you may be grateful for that.

I'm confused about this whole Physx thing.  I have 8800gtx SLI.  So if I get this new driver will it steal one of my cards for Physx use, or take a little bit of space from both of them?  My understanding is that if I dont play games that use physx than I wont benefit.  ???????????????????????????????

it'll use some of the gpu cycles to do the phyx calculations.  theres not a lot that uses it at the moment.  the ut3 stuff is neat but it does suffer from frame rate reduction a bit.  theres a game called warmonger thats included too.

Actually, with this driver update, I've seen frame rate increases with a lot of my games. I'm really liking this. but yeah the warmonger thing did suck a bit.
