...according to DeVore - a boards.ie member who has had some experience playing the BF3 Demo - Dedicated LAN servers will NOT be supported. You will have to rent a server a la BC2.
It looks awesome. if you could make a game out of Black Hawk Down, it would look like this.
So, specific answers.
Yes there is an extensive singleplayer campaign.
Its developed with the Frostbite2 engine and it was developed for the PC. The xbox version has been scrunched down. In fact one of the techs was telling me that when they first tried it on 360, it would barely render a single player object before optimisation.
Snipers are in it but i didnt get to see any play as them.
There is regenerating health like Halo.
Here's the shocker.... no dedicated LAN support. The lan has to have connection out to the interweb. He said would you be able to rent dedicated servers, "like before" ... which i hope makes sense to you.
I asked about commander mode and they all clammed up and wouldnt say anything. I doubt you will see it as one head guy did say "it was only 2 out of 128 people, its a lot of work for that"... but i expect some new tactical and strategic elements to MP because there was something they werent telling us.
They wouldnt say a lot about MP and certainly wouldnt answer questions about mods squads, mostly they wanted to show off the pretty pictures which were... in fairness... pretty.
There was one thing I loved, their destruction physics are amazing, you can tear down a 5 storey hotel to the ground, to rubble, or you can blow about a 1/6th of a breezeblock away from a wall to get a shot or to reveal an enemy in cover.
If we get another invite in the fall (as we sometimes do) I'll try to get a BF mod over to it, we've done it before for driving games mods. This was much more than BF though, i got to see and play Portal 2(awesome, gonna be huge!) and tons of other stuff.

Yeah I won't be picking this up unless it's on megasale..$9.99.
-
Im still getting it! Woohoo!!!! Besides how old is this review. Commander mode not being in the game has been common knowledge for quite some time now.
update**** I see it is a new post. but oh well considering we only lan about 4-5 times a year and the rest of the time were on the internet playing.

I know DWG is annoying, but let's not act rashly.

I agree with dave, and with the likelihood of me attending any lan this year being extremely slim, I'll definitely buy it. :P
-
How's about we fly to DICE offices and see wtf they're thinking?
-
f'n blows no lan support yet again! damn money hungry bastards
-

I agree with agent who also agrees with Dave
-
Then why you bitches sign the poster!?

because it's a feature that I think would be nice and good for the lan but it doesn't mean that im gonna pass up a good game for lack of it. Im not gonna play homefront just because its got lan support either. I really can't get into the feel of that game.
-
I will eventually buy it too, but not at launch. Which most/some of us will when it drops in price.
-
1. Pour gasoline all over the DICE offices
2. Drop match
3. ?
4. Fire sale!
-
Then why you bitches sign the poster!?
Why the hell not?
And I also agree in the price drop stuff. Not pre-ordering anything anymore. Because I'd like to hear user reviews first and because $50-60 is WAY too much to pay for a freaking game based off of hype and press reviews. Something like $20-30 is acceptable.
-
Then why you bitches sign the poster!?
Why the hell not?
Cause it said no LAN support no support from you LAN goers... Way to stick to your guns... Should I call the bunch of you liars?!

Exactly. Screw it! If it doesnt have LAN support I wont be buying it. I actually stick to my promises!

It goes along in the same vein of those stupid iPad contests. I don't really have any use for one, nor would I ever buy it on my own volition. But I'll sure as hell enter my name into those contests to get a free one. Because honestly, what could it hurt? If anything, I increased the chances of any positive outcome. Same mentality.
Forfeiting a positive chance, no matter how small, just to stick to a principle, is pointless unless it's a matter of life and death. :P But for a leisure activity? Pfft.

Well, I WAS (slowly) getting the parts for my new system because of this game. Now it seems I'll just be building a new system for.... whatever. Duke. Yes, the King.
-
I Lied about the support thing. I didnt want to sign it but you guys pressured me into it:) hehe. at least i stayed out of the picture. Your making me feel guilty now dammit.
10 bucks says were all playing this game within the first month after release reguardless of the lan support.
-
I won't be. Like, actually won't. Not for a loooooong while. I was looking forward to reserving the special edition purely because of Wake Island. The game better drop to $30 before I consider it and the DLC better be a low price as well. Between Duke, Mortal Kombat and the now-announced Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for PC AAAAAND Street Fighter X Tekken for PC, I'll have enough to keep me occupied.
....plus, I just started up FFXI again. /almostshame

I know some of you will be regardless of your views on 'support'. But not all of us will. Like I said, give it 6 months or however long it will take for the price to drop or a steam deal comes out, then maybe we all will be playing it.
Also, there have been NO word or videos on MP. So you may buy it and not like it, just like how you don't like Homefront. I personally think the SP doesn't look all that good (not speaking of GFX as they do 'look good'). But gameplay is key here. It looks like a shooting gallery on rails....but pretty rails.
-
Give it some credit. Pretty, sparkly, rainbow dipped in gold rails.

THAT'S WORSE THAN WoW BY A MILLION MILES!
-
Yeah, uh-huh. You just keep thinking that. 14, perhaps. Not 11.
-
FFXI... Grind for 100 Hours on the same bad guy for XP... Zone if you are about to die/lose.

No No No. This is like the opposite of signing up for a free one. You actively signed up saying you would boycott it entirely on a certain condition (LAN support) that was not met. Yes I understand the concept winning a free one. And i'm sure you would put use to a free ipad the same way I would probably play this if someone gave it to me. BUT I'm not turning around and asking for a one. I'm just shocked that you signed up on some raffle mentality about getting over on Da Man. That's exactly why they don't give a damn. Ooo way to strike fear into a company with a fake boycott.
More on the life or death thing, it's like you were some vegan that said they're rather die then eat meat, BUT lo and behold you didn't even wait to get close to being hungry or starving. You looked around the room saw no salad bar and said Fudge it give me some of that free range chicken, cause everyone else is eating it.
-
Oh good grief, it's not that big of a deal. I signed it because we wanted to show off 200 signatures right? If the only people to sign the thing were the only people hardcore enough to stick with it, there would have been a LOT less signatures, and that wouldn't have looked very impressive on the DICE/EA forums, now would it? :P Doesn't matter now, though. No point in continuing this dead horse of an argument.
And I agree with the salad bar thing. I'd totally say screw my dietary life choice and eat the Fudgeing chicken. But then again, I'm not vegetarian.

Honestly, it really displays your integrity. Just sayin'. If you knew you were going to buy the game regardless of lan support or not and "with the likelihood of me attending any lan this year being extremely slim" - which basically means you could care less for lan support in general - you should not have signed the petition. I believe it wasn't for show, and I think 99.9% of the people who did sign it also didn't do it 'for show'.
I have been pretty much keeping my mouth shut on some of the comments about this subject. But I couldn't let that comment go unnoticed.
Sure EA/DICE could probably care less about a small group of gamers, but maybe....just maybe...this could provoke even more gamers (PC gamers) to continue in the effort to make EA/DICE notice that they are Fudgeing with one of their most loyal fan base.
-
I agree Big D.
... it's not that big of a deal. I signed it
I hope you take more pride in your work when you put your name one that.
-
Good lord, people. I signed it. It's done. Scribble my name off the banner if you want.
