Mechwarrior 4 will be re-released as a free download! I forget if there was multiplayer, but if there is...we need to get on that!

I would love to see them re-vamp that game... Being able to strap armor and weapons to cars while tweaking up everything from the engine to the suspension in a mad-max kind of world = win

O hell yeah. This was Pre-Vigilante 8. I also love that game, I believe they made that for PC as well.

I have interstate 78 and 82. Unfortunately, they do not work at all on newer systems. The best I found was a battlefield 2 mod.

Actually, a company called GOG (Good Old Games) re-released Interstate 76 and the Arsenal pack together for $5 as a digital download on their website. It was modified to work on 32 and 64 bit operating systems check it out.

Since the Free Release was cleared by Microsoft last Wednesday, the MekTek staff have been working dilgently to put together a patch to the current 3.1 release that removes the CD checks from the game. Along with this patch will be a number of bug fixes and an update to MTX which should help a number of common issues and speed up the whole process (namely hashing).
Currently MTX and the Free Release are being regression tested by our beta testers. As part of our QAQC process, our testers check and re-check every issue to help ensure as stable of a release as possible. We do not have an ETA on release at this time, but we will be releasing as soon as it is cleared for release status by our testers.
However, in order to satiate your desires for information, here are some of the bug fixes and updates you can expect:

I also wanted to clear up some information on what the Free Release is and how the process will work. The Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries free release will be a patch that applies to the current MekPak 3.1 release. You will need to use MTX to download and install the 3.1 release. Remember, the 3.1 release is a complete version of the game; you do not need to install the game from the CD (though they are currently required to play) and it will not update previously installed versions of the game.
Once you have 3.1 installed, the Free Release will be a small patch that removes the requirement to have the CD in your drive to play.
Once the free release is out, be sure to click UPDATE to patch-up to the latest version.
In the meantime, use MTX to download and install the 3.1 release so that you will be one step closer once the Free Release is out. If you already have 3.1 installed, I'd recommend checking out AT:1 which is also available through MTX.
