Title: Intel claims SSD superiority, tries to dispel myths
Post by: Dwg115 on September 06, 2008, 02:18:29 PM
Our love/hate relationship with hard drives may be coming to an end... that is if Intel has its way.  For more than a year, Intel has been touting their upcoming solid state drives and at the recent Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Intel basically trumpeted the end of the spinning magnetic platter era.  Lower power consumption, faster speeds and longer life were the reasons people would be buying SSDs in the coming months and Intel engineers gave plenty of numbers to back up their claims.  The engineers also claimed that not all solid state drives are created equal and, you guessed it, Intel SSDs were at the top of the dog pile.

You mean better, cheaper SSD's. SSDs are already on the market, but their sustained transfer speed isn't any better than standard magnetic platter drives of today and their price per GB is much higher.

BTW Dave, could you include the source of your news?

Doesn't look like your source, but here's a bit more info about the topic at hand;

Wow, this topic went off course rather quickly.

...and the video is no longer available. It must've been critical of scientology (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080908-scientology-fights-critics-with-4000-dmca-takedown-notices.html).

Heres a great article on Intels new drives.  the only thing that really interestes me a lot is the game minimum FPS these drives deliver.  That is a real nice boost especially for newer games that have a lot of texture loading throughout the game (crysis).

With all this talk about getting "off course" and having the new "boosters" in the "drive," if I don't at least see some SD's in the near future I'll be mighty disappointed.

Nevermind, the video's back (http://mensnewsdaily.com/2008/09/09/youtube-reposting-anti-scientology-videos-eff-says-rights-group-doesnt-exist/).
