DOTA 2 now has LAN support
« on: September 26, 2013, 08:10:12 PM »
Around here at FITES there are all of three people that play DOTA 2, myself being one of them, but now DOTA offers LAN support in their new "First Blood" update. It also included a GLaDOS announcer pack (which is awesome, BTW) and new crates! Yeah, crates aren't just for TF2.

The particulars about the LAN support aren't great though. Currently it's the same as hosting your own lobby, but now you don't need to ping the DOTA network. I was hoping for some kind of dedicated server option, which would make it better for tournaments at a LAN. It's nice to not need the outside connection, but hosting the lobby shouldn't be dependent on someone's hardware. It's just not optimal for a tournament, but less resource intensive than hosting a match from your computer and using your internet connection at the same time.

So, with some LAN support, does anyone feel like doing some easy learning lobbies at our upcoming Monthly LAN?
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

I may be more interested in playing this now that setting up a game might not take 20 minutes.
