This is pretty neat. Att just announced their femtocell... Only available in Charlotte, NC right now.

Basically it's a mini cell tower, about the size of a wifi-router, and you connect it to your home internet broadband connection. It supports up to 4 cell phones simultaneously at 3G speeds and supports hand-offs to the regular att cell network if you leave the house while still on a phone call. Pretty damn slick.

Apparently Tmobile and verizon have similar techs

I think Shoctor had posted something similar to this for the next big LAN where we had no cell service. Neat none the less.

I posted more of a relay of cell signal... This acts a lot like a cell tower. It has a GPS to tell where it is so that it can do hand-offs. It's pretty cool for those places that have good internet buy suck cell... But man the places where I think that would be good have Crapty internet too.

Verizon has one too. The box is kind of pricey however. $250.

I've seen some pretty cold reception to these devices; their outrageous price being one of the big negatives.

Also, in regards to the cell relay device that Shoctor posted about, they're not all that great either. We used one temporarily in one of our offices until we could get a full strength repeater put in and the little ones that Shoctor posted about can only handle three simultaneous calls. I'm not sure what happens when the fourth call is attempted, but most likely you just don't get through.

That would be the one Rathe was talking about Verizon is CDMA. I don't use them so I don't know enough about it.
