BETA Details:
Beta Begins/Ends Jan 28th/Feb 25th
Map Name Port Valdez
Players 32
Game Mode Rush
Environment Snow
Theme Vehicle and Infantry
Back Story The battle for Port Valdez is fought alongside the waterline towards a great oil industrial landscape in the Alaskan mountains. Using basically everything they've got the Russian forces are launching an airborne assault to knock out the oil industries in the area. In their arsenal there are Main Battle Tanks as well as fast-moving Quad Bikes and mobile armored AA. It's a vehicle focused battle, but with plenty of infantry combat.

God be Praised. To bad it ends just before the lan. :(
-
True, but they do mention: We are however working with Steam to have the Public PC Beta available on Steam, but can't confirm this quite yet so cross your fingers Steam users. :-)" So who knows if that means it'd take part during the closed beta, but I doubt it.
-
Why did my PC have to die now?
-
one of my big concerns is that they say they are not gonna distribute the dedicated server files publicly.
-
Yeah, but as long as they don't employ the god awful matchmaking system a la L4D/MW2, I don't mind as much. They explained before that the rentable dedicated servers will be fully loaded with features to customize. And who knows, maybe we could talk with them about getting a dedicated server for any future events?
-
Hey that would be nice.
-
Sweet zombie jesus! I might have to go reserve it at gamestop.
-
I just cancelled my gamestop pre-order. They are selling the limited edition for the same price as the normal edition, but I saw that all the bonus stuff you get with the LE, you can get just by unlocking it normally. So I'll wait for the steam pre-order to come online.
-
What kind of bonus stuff? Pie? Cake? Advanced sniper unlocks? Either way, it's a party for me!
But for real.... what's the bonus stuff you get?

Hrmmmm.....
Thanks!
-
Yup, I have my pre-order in already. Just waiting to get my beta key, I'll take some Fraps vids once I get in it.
-
Just reserved mine. Joy! I'm going to hit the ol' "hey, picking up the rest of the tab on this reserved game would make a GREAT early birthday present."
-
Oh hey look! Another kickass trailer!

Very, very cool. However, I'm totally looking forward to getting the vehicle motion sensor. Why? Because when the opposite team has 3-5 people in one building, either hiding or taking potshots out of a window, I'm going to be able to roll around in a tank, scan what's in front of me and when I see this huddled mass of people on the other side of a wall, I'm going to say, "EAT THIS!!!" and blow away the wall next to them.... and them, too.
-
Eventually people are going to learn that walls provide no safe guard from tanks...
-
True that. However, did you ever play 2142? Man, I lost count on how many times I could sit in one of those anti-tank cannons/ground-mounted railguns and have enemy infantry run right in front of me, while I was keeping them in my sights. Worse yet, many people have actually tried to charge me with just some full-auto rifle while I was in it. Either way, I just constantly mowed down these oblivious "soldiers" with a freaking railcannon from less than 6 feet away that has a barrel twice their height.
I mean, wtf. I'm fully armored in the front and they were effectively throwing ants at a brick wall. I suspect the same realm of thinking will extend to this game, too. There'll be a lot of people who know better, but there will also be the many, many helpless souls who won't think ahead on a vehicle map.
-
God, how I miss those helpless souls. Rorsch sniping was a favored past-time of mine. I also loved sitting on a high ledge alone in a Gunship and TV missile-ing to cover the entire map. :-p. I loved honing in on a tank that was oblivious to my existence, or hitting the walker right in the sweet spot, underneath into the vents, one-shot.

Singleplayer trailer! Looks hot. This may be the first BF game I've played (errr... will play) that actually has a SP campaign that isn't just a bot match of an MP map.
-
It does look pretty badass doesn't it?
-
I bought BC1 as it was cheap and even though I never beat the SP campaign, I fully enjoyed it. I suspect this game will be many times more entertaining.
-
Oh, this is last nights episode of GTTV covering lots more of BC2, plus a racing game that looks pretty awesome too. I don't normally like racing games, but bigass explosions? Always good.
http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/81?ep=81
I put it in code because when I tried to link it normally, the embedded player showed up with some nintendo DS crap.
-
I want to see PC screens and videos. All I am seeing are Xbox360 videos (from the 'X' button prompts).
-
Well, I'll find out next Thursday how it is on the PC :)
-
Damn straight. Since it's a thursday, I'm not working and I intend to be at gamestop at 10am sharp. Hopefully DICE will deliver on their surround gaming promise and I'll be able to put up a bunch of pictures.
-
Why gamestop? You get the beta key by email and download the beta online. The game doesn't come out till March 2nd...

Did you pre-order yours on the EB games website? What was the 'down payment'?
-
I pre-ordered from the EA Store. I figured that was the best way to ensure that I get a beta key.
-
I reserved it in the store instead of buying it online because I figured I'd put the $5 into it and get my sister to front the rest as my birthday present as opposed to paying the full amount online.
I asked the girl at the counter about beta stuff and she said she didn't have any info for the pc beta, so I just left it at "if there is any news about the beta stuff, can I come in here and show the receipt and get a key?" and she confirmed that I could. Of course, that's assuming that keys are also given out in the store.
-
I just reserved mine on steam and they guarentee access to the beta
-

-

Even more beta infos! http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/01/26/big-battfield-bad-company-2-pc-beta-blog-of-epic-goodness.aspx (http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/01/26/big-battfield-bad-company-2-pc-beta-blog-of-epic-goodness.aspx)
When's the Beta
First, let's start by making the official time and date of the Beta the start of this Blog in what will be and EPIC moment in DICE's PC History! The PC Beta begins this Thursday, January 28th at approximately 6pm CET, 12pm EST, and 9am PST time!!!!!!! :-D
Where to Get It
The Client will be downloadable from server partner websites and Steam starting at the above listed time at a file size of 1.5GB. Here's a hyper-link reminder http://bit.ly/4GJk2a (http://bit.ly/4GJk2a) on which retailers will provide PC Beta access through pre-ordering.
Why we're Having a Beta
The Beta is happening for many reasons, like testing the infrastructure, hosting stability, and gameplay tuning (FOV, Weapon Balance, etc...) that no amount of internal testing could provide better than real world exposure. This means there will also be times of choppiness, lag, disconnects, CTDs or other issues a Beta version of any MP game would have. We'll have feedback methods similar to the PS3 Beta as well to ensure your input is gathered and heard.
Advanced warning: there will be things updated in the final game, like a Server browser with more functions, optimizations, performance tweaks, and learning's from the Beta.
This truly is a Beta, so remember that all feedback is appreciated and wanted! :-)
Hosting the Beta
Renting of Beta servers will not be possible, but we'll work closely with all our Ranked Server Providers to ensure there is always enough capacity for each individual regions.
Where to Download the Beta
We'll distribute with many partners as possible to ensure the fastest DLs no matter your location around the world. Current know locations and methods will be EADM, Steam, Torrents (only get this from legit sources, i.e. an RSP*), and all our RSP's.
Getting Started In the Beta
STEP 1: Make sure you have at least 5GB free on your HDD and then download and Install BFBC2! :-D
STEP 2: Once installation is completed (install size will be around 1.5GB) start the client and click the login button. You will then be prompted to sign in with your EA Account. If you don't have an EA Account you'll be able to create one in the same screen. (You may also create your EA Account in advance HERE)
STEP 3: Enter the unique PC Beta Code during the log in process to authenticate your participation in the Beta.
STEP 4: Create your Soldier name (this will lock that name to your EA account for retail if you want to keep it).
I still haven't gotten a beta key yet (and judging by the comments on that blog post, most everyone else hasn't either)

yea i kinda regret buying MW2 now as i don't play it much. but thats only because you guys dont play it.
Well once you hack the levels stats there really isn't a point. Only to chuckle when you get in a game and people call you a hacker. lol

I chuckle every time I see someone on steam playing it....
-
lol it gets old being called a hacker.
-
Francis Ford Coppola, I give Moose Head... yeah I totally swear this is what the Op-For are always yelling in BF2
-
lol it gets old being called a hacker.
Thats why i stopped playing COD4 MW... i was banned from most of the servers I had good connectivity on... and no I was not hacking...
-
It is your computer. They don't want you to play their game; because your pc con play much better games. And isn't that the truth.
-
Goddammit! I can't concentrate on my work because of the anticipation of this beta!

totally agent all the way!
-
Are we planning on doing some more BF over the weekend? I guess I should try to get a key or preorder LOL. Anything's better than shoveling this white stuff right now
-
I`ll play a bit this weekend. I can only do so much though. Its a fun game an all but the same map over and over again gets old quick.
-
That's why I'm trying not to play it much before it's released :P
-
I still play the Crap out of it though.
