After listening to Dave talking about crazy 10k ML Lan Parties. And most of the other stay throwing around ideas about ways to generate revenue. The thought occurred to me. Why don't we have a Youtube channel? With enough subscribers it could be a nice avenue of money that is generated every month. Now to make big money ever month you would need something like 55k subscribers. In this instance the subscriber base probably wouldn't be much. But it would provide some money to use towards the purchase of equipment and other things.
Of course Youtube has 10 minute limits on videos. But we (FITES) could showcase like 10 minutes of footage at the occasional monthly. And maybe like a half hour of footage for the yearly big events. I am just throwing this out there. Take it with a fine grain of salt. And there would need to be someone to film it and have the proper equipment to do such things.

I'm still in the process of buying a DSLR with video capabilities (this (http://nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Digital-SLR/25446/D90.html)). Once I have that, I might be able to get something done. Really hoping to have it for the next big LAN.

That is a nice camera. Nikon makes a very nice product. I am wanting to learn Adobe Premier, and was curious to see some of the camcorders that it supports. About fell over when I saw the price of some of them. Granted there are cameras that are not on their website that would probably support Premiere. It is all a trial and error type thing. I have been wanting a camcorder for awhile now, but I am one of those type of people who would use it. Then keep it somewhere and forget I had it because I don't use it enough.

I was looking to buy a camcorder before, but realized I wanted something that did more than just video. Sure some camcorders do allow you to take pictures with them, but you don't have control. Or rather, you don't have the control that a DSLR does. Like different lenses, the ability to control depth of field, shooting in RAW format, and loads of other big points. So with the ability to shoot awesome pictures, it also comes packed with 720p video features. It doesn't have some of the basic features that a normal consumer camcorder does like Continuous Auto-focus, but it wasn't made for that.
I figure, if I familiarize myself with manual focus enough, then that part won't matter. Although the D300s does have Continuous AF. But it's also over $2k.
Also.. the price listed on the Nikon website is body ONLY. You have to buy the lens, tri/monopod, etc separate.

Travis has a kickass DSLr he had it at one of the lans. I say give me some rum and coke and I'll take all the pics! Just kidding.

Yeah I brought my Cannon to the last big lan. That Nikon is VERY nice Agent! The only gripe I have with it is that it only captures clips...and they are only 24fps. But it is still something to work with!
-
Yeah it only allows up to 5 minutes at a time, and I have no real gripes about the 24fps part. When you think of it, TV shows are encoded at 25fps and the standard fps for movies is 23.976.
-
Yeah, but with 120hz and 240hz tv's....gotta have that flow....'iness. Great camera regardless.

But that's what he is saying. HD at 720p is usually only 24fps. The massive refresh rate helps with ghosting.

I see that no one really is against this sort of idea. I gathered by the posts that someone should probably have a decent camera in order to do this sort of thing. Like I said just give it some thought.

I am up with everything EXCEPT how money is made from a YouTube channel. Is it like adsense?

It is more like subscriber-sense. I am subscribed to Davesfarm farm up in London Ontario Canada. He has like 55k subs, and in one month he made $15k american. I assume it is a little of both here.

well if theres that kind of money involved lets get this thing rolling. Or at least get more info on it so we can take a vote:)

You still have to have compelling content that makes people want to subscribe and actually watch your videos. You can just expect to post videos and watch the cash roll in.
