Title: Rock Band 2 Tournament
Post by: _!Rathe!_ on January 05, 2009, 11:38:56 AM
We have been throwing around the idea of holding a Rock Band 2 tournament at the 150 man lan in Feb.  After looking around at some tournament setups that have been done before, we thought it would be best to find out what the people who are gonna be in the tournament would like to have.  So let us know.  (Poll will be closing Feb 10th so that the rules can be finalized and posted prior to the LAN).

Is the tournament going to have set difficulty levels for everyone?  I would get in on the drumming tourny.  And could I bring my cymbal kit?

The difficulty can be selected by the participants.  Obviously the higher the difficulty level the higher the score, so the better chance of winning.  Yes you can bring your own drum kit and or cymbal set.

Actually, since I have the 1st gen drum set, I'd prefer if you brought your RB2 drums ;) *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Never seen the cymbals in action, how exactly do they fit in with the normal drumming?

Erm, I dunno about bringing my drums for 150+ people to bang away on.  Since FITES isn't responsible for broken Crape and all.  Even at the smaller lans I was wary about all the kids banging away on them.  I'll have to think about it.....

Cymbals are different since they were only $30 and I can easily remove them.  But since there may not be the 2nd gen drums there, I wouldn't be able to use them anyway.

Cymbals take a little getting used to.  I get confuzzled on some songs since I try to remember when the green is a cymbal or when it's a tom.  You can hit either whenever the color comes up, but I like to keep the realism up and use the crash when it's a crash.  It is certainly easier to hit the green cymbal than it is to hit the green pad at times.  I have the left cymbal as an extra blue pad which turns it into a ride cymbal.  During fills, RB2 knows the difference and makes the yellow, blue and green pads toms while the cymbals are a crash (green) and a ride (blue) or open hihat (yellow).  I would have got the 3 cymbal set, but I couldn't find it.

As far as performance judges...what would they be judging? Song Selection / Difficulty, Dress Attire, Stage Performance. Obviously there should be a curve system in place according to difficulty unless the game already takes this into account (I dont have it, only played 2x while attending the small lans so I dont know)

Just curious...Not like it matters for me anyways :'(

We were looking at this thread

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111654 (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111654)

and debating if performance judgment should be factored into the scoring. We're really not sure how we're going to do it yet, that's why we're soliciting the feedback.

Scoring should be accounted for but not the only thing.  Someone can play a song on expert poorly (if no fail is on) and score more than someone who plays on medium and get's 90% and up.  And this is going to be a 'band' tourny judged by group and not individually?  That means we got's ta' get some bands started!

You got it!  If I/we get a band together, I will bring my drums, but I'll be using them and they won't be for the general public.

I'm in too if you'll have me....bass or vocals preferably, but of course guitar works too, but I think Shadow's better than I at gee-tar.

Let's try and keep the building of the bands in a separate thread.  We want to keep this one for just the comments about how the scoring of the tourney will go.

I think it should be on score and showmanship. If you're good at the game, look alive onstage, and it'll please the crowd moar.
