We are fresh off an amazing weekend at the Fites 250 it was a very solid turnout and hope everyone had a great time! Do you have suggestions? Something you wanted to see at the LAN that wasn't there? Whichever it may be drop a line below!

Since I am sure people are curious. I've posted the traffic graps for the period of the LAN. :)

Tournaments for more games?

What would you have liked to see?

Tournaments for more games?
There were already plenty of tournaments overlapping. Those CSGO rounds can take a considerable amount of time. Scheduling has gotta get tricky after a certain threshold is reached.

VERY Tricky!

Network was amazing... best ever in the past 5 years! FITES staff was friendly as always and the overall organization was on point. We [vG] anxiously look forward to attending the annual event every year - already counting down the days until FITES 2017 :)
Preface:
FITES doesn't even have to host tournaments, but they do and they are awesome for it. When we [vG] choose to sign up for tournament(s), we typically get even more excited for the LAN than we normally would which is a great feeling leading up the actual event. FITES 2012 will always hold a special place for us due to the incredible BF3 tournament. FITES has remained a "No Cash Prizes" (http://www.fites.net/general-discussion/thoughts-on-'no-cash-prizes-'/msg76156/#msg76156) event and I REALLY hope this never changes because it would cater to a whole different crowd. That said, since the tournaments are more casual, its not fair [for us, the attendees] to demand certain things when it comes to the tournaments... so I understand that makes my only gripe below a double edged sword.
Tournament length from start to finish. This year, the 3v3 RL tournament started ~12:30pm and didn't finish until ~8:30pm. Our team personally had a FOUR hour window between games which is rough because you never want to be "that team" that isn't available when the next game is ready (***cue one BF3 team in the past which will remain anonymous who decided to go to Benihana for 2 hours when we were ready to play***). So, what happens is you are in this constant state of 'standby' and it really messes up the flow of the LAN. Even with the casual mindset, I feel there should be more time allotted between the tournaments and/or less tournaments overall. I believe this year there were multiple tournaments that didn't generate enough interest and were scrapped altogether (Street Fighter V (?), Mystery Tournament, DotA 2, etc) and there were still crazy delays with the tournaments that did happen. Let's be real, they are either 1) never starting on time or 2) overlapping and/or lasting HOURS longer than they should be. The latter point is what starts to create that ripple effect where a tournament can literally take 3/4 of a day. To FITES staff defense, they do their best to accommodate this overlap, but it can quickly spiral out of control... In conclusion, tournament structure should be reworked so that either A) a loose (but strict) set of tournament rules are enforced or B) attendees that sign up for tournaments need to make sure their teams are ready when called upon otherwise they are disqualified... let's see how fast the tournaments start/finish with something like that in place 8)

Happy New Year Everyone!
Less than 2 months away now... already feeling nostalgic of the old venue, but anxious to create memories in the new one! Now that the intranet is populated with tournaments (http://intranet.fites.net/tournaments), I was reminded of my post above. Just curious to know if/how the FITES Staff plans to tackle tournaments this year? :curtain:

With a multi-pronged attack! ;)
Hoping Xan will be back this year as our tournament master. Also, we plan on running some at the same time.
Also, unless stated otherwise if someone is playing in the CSGO tournament that Club Conflict will be running will be considered priority and will forfeit your match in the other if you are unable to start within 10 minutes. (This will be laid out in a more formal way than this posting.)

Thanks for the info Shoctor, sounds good :)
Looking forward to the LAN as always!
Pumped to see the new venue, etc. as well.

We have always tried to run each of them each in their own time slots but being down our tournament master and adding tournaments hurt timing.
And we will try to be flexible when we can, but I figured this would be the best compromise. I feel it would eliminate not only people waiting to play stress, but for the person in the other event stressing about hurrying and finishing.
tl;dr Hope to remove some stress, and make it more relaxing and enjoyable for everyone.

Just wanted to say that tournaments felt very smooth this year... great job Xan!
