That food was average. Granted that the lady gave a lot of meat for the tacos, but between them and the burgers (I had both) I give it all a 7/10. The fries were definitely not something to write home about.

I vote we get to use a stove next time. I can cook some good stuff and I'm sure that with 200 people, someone can make something tasty.

....yeah, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.  :bomb:

- holy crap was it hot back by us.  we were in the last row and it had to be 80-85 degrees back there.  I'm not sure there's anything you guys can do, just due to the sheer amount of machines and the enclosed space, but a couple fans circulating air might help in the future.

I am working on tweaking the layout to bring more machines to the front and open up some space in the back. This will allow for fan placement to help circulate air, get some more of the BTU output up front where it wasn't hot, and eliminate the back row of people who had to stare at a wall during the event. We completely redesigned out table layout to allow us to go from 200 to 250 people and row spacing was a big concern. Now that I got to see how everything laid out and flowed I hope to improve it even more for the next event.

I want to start by saying I had a really good time. This was the first LAN I have been to, and you guys definitely will see me back next year. One of the things that bugged me though was how long it took to get the Battlefield 3 tournament going. It was supposed to start at 7 but we didn't end up playing until around 11. I think having a piece of software that pops up on people's machines with a message would let people in the tournaments know they need to join the server. I have an idea for this but it would be way to boring for most people to read, but I am working on a set of tools for LAN's that includes a feature like this if you're interested.

my apologies for the delay on the bf3 tournament. The tournament was not run by fites but by us (vitality gaming) Unfortunately two teams decided they want to goto dinner right before the tournament was going to start.  We had to make a decision to proceed without them or wait.  Had we not waited there wouldn't have been much of a tournament.  When they did finally get back it turned into the biggest cluster you could possibly imagine trying to get their team members into the correct servers.  Even now I don't understand why it was so difficult.  I was rather disappointed myself and its unlikely we will be having one in the future.  Sorry :(

I actually enjoyed the tournament once it got going (even though you guys kicked our asses) and would definitely participate again next year if there was one being held. That was more on the teams that decided to leave than on you guys, and I think it just should have been made clear when the tournament was because it seemed like no one really knew it was starting until it was announced that the tounament was starting.

Thanks.  And looking back you are right.  We should have just dropped them.  They were magnitudes more trouble than it was worth. Even once we finally did get them in the server one of them would drop any time the server rebooted. The round start until there was X amount of players.  When we would reach that number the server would restart to start the match.  This caused a never ending loop until we edited the config to ignore that he was dropping.

there is a tournament schedule on their intranet page.  Tournament times are posted for everyone to see.  Unfortunately that page is not updated in real time so if the tournament gets delayed, changed, canceled, etc it may be difficult to know. You said this was your first Lan; this was my fourth.  I probably have forgotten what its like to be new to this event.  I know where to go and who to ask to get whatever information I need.  Looking back through the 2012 feedback thread there were people who shared your concerns as well.  At this point, until they invest in some sort of airport flight status type system/display the only adice I have is to simply ask the helpdesk up front.  I've always gotten good results.

This makes me ponder the necessity of making sure Staff throughout the event are more visible than just shirts and badges in a dimly lit room.
Eventually something cool will go in here. It's a matter of time.

Nope. We have a help desk with a nice led sign. People can get up out of their seat and come to it with questions or use the alp support ticket system if they have a problem.

Any chance of doing some smaller stuff next year with BF3/4?  I'm not the best player ever, but I've dabbled.  The problem is the tourney seemed like it was the two VG teams vs those other two teams, so it's a little intimidating for someone like me who has under 200 hrs and isn't a lvl100 colonel.  Maybe some smaller 4v4 stuff?  Just something to make it easier for somebody like me who didn't travel with a 16 person team but still wants to play  :-)

That's why we added the little events in TF2... eventhough we didn't get all of them played, the idea was to get as many people involved as possible and create events that would attract a wide range of players.  We'll do better next year, but definitely having other events will get more people wanting to play your game.  Yes, it helps that TF2 is a free, but I know a LOT of people bought BF3, and hey, it's still on sale for $10 for another 2 days :-)

I am shocked and appalled that you would turn down the opportunity to put LEDs in staff badges. :)

Hi Duder,

I think you're completely right.  I dont know what happened this year.  Last year there was 5 teams.  That might not sound like alot but when  you have teams of 8 thats a total of 40 people.  Thats 1 in 5 people at the event last year participated in the BF3 tournament.   That sounds like a major success to me? Heres a quote in reference to the BF3 tournament last year in the 2012 feedback thread from Czar:

That BF3 round was the most intense I've ever played and the most fun!

This year, only the Artemis and two of the TF2 tournaments which required huge teams got that much attention. I understand the staff's reservations on running the tournament, but thats a completely different discussion altogether.  I thought the $10 sale, as you pointed out, would help with that.  And perhaps it did.  Maybe people bought it and then couldnt download it.  Origin does not have the nifty backup system like Steam does

<rant>
If you purchased something on steam and felt the need to DOWNLOAD it you need punched in the throat.  You're at a LAN with 249 other people.  SOMEONE has that game. Stop using all the internet when there is obvious internet problems to begin with.
</rant>

After discussing it internally this morning, having our name on it as well as two teams playing may have caused some teams to pass over it.  I cant say that for sure, but then also having someone on the outside also say that it was intimidating is swaying my opinion in that direction.  We will probably rent another Open Play server for the event next year, but there is a VERY slim chance that Vitality will be running a tournament for it.

and just in our defense... we only have 1 sh*tbucket on our team :D

I would love to see BF3/4 be around in the future. Playing 4 on 7 made my peepee tingle.

Interesting.  This had the same effect for me during the tournament:
